Frequently Asked Questions

Does the product come with instructions?

Yes. Instructions are included in the package insert and also on the containers of HairSanity Step 1 and HairSanity Step 2. In addition, instructions for use can be found on the company's websites.

How do I use HairSanity?

It takes no more time or is any more difficult than shampooing and conditioning your hair the old-fashioned way. Simply apply a quarter-sized amount of HairSanity Step 1 to the top of the head and another quarter-sized amount to the sides of wet hair and scalp. Add additional water and cleanser for increased lather. Massage lather into scalp and rinse thoroughly with warm water. Use daily or a minimum of 3 times per week. Follow up with HairSanity Step 2 by gently massaging HairSanity Step 2 into scalp and work through hair to the ends. Leave on 30 seconds for normal hair and 2-3 minutes for damaged and/or processed hair. Rinse with warm water, dry and style as usual. For best results, we recommend that you use Step 2 every time you use Step One, but no less than three times a week.

How is the product packaged?

HairSanity is a two-step system and both Step 1 and Step 2 come in tubes that are easy to open and close and stand up on end in the shower, bath or cabinet. A silver tab secures the product in the tube and will need to be removed before first use. Simply tear the tab away from the tube opening and discard the silver tab.

What is the material composition?

The products are comprised of active ingredients and inactive ingredients, all of which are on the labels or insert for each product. Our active ingredients are all categorized by FDA as GRASE, which means Generally Recognized as Safe and Effective. Step 1 of HairSanity contains hydrocortisone acetate which is used by dermatologists worldwide in the care of the skin. The active ingredient in Step 2 is salicylic acid for the control of dandruff which is used in some of the finest spas in the world as an exfoliant treatment designed to deliver smoother, softer, younger looking and more radiant skin.

In addition to these actives, we use a proprietary mix of ingredients including nutrients, anti-oxidants, proteins and moisturizers. The HairSanity products contain extracts of the alp rose, oat kernel, green tea, willow bark and sea whip (from a Caribbean reef).

Our cleaning agents are gentle on the hair and color and our products are not tested on animals and do not contain parabens or sulfates.

Are the products available in stores?

No.

Who developed HairSanity?

Dr. Rebecca Kazin, a Johns Hopkins trained Board Certified Dermatologist.

Throughout her career, Dr. Kazin was repeatedly approached by patients seeking to solve problems with dry or oily scalp, flaking and scalp itch. Patients, colleagues and Dr. Kazin agreed that at the time there was no effective solution on the market that would address the scalp issues and concurrently deliver the salon quality results they were seeking.

Dr. Kazin recognized this unmet need and put together a team of top chemists and industry experts to create what is now HairSanity. After five years, she achieved her goal, a product with the efficacy of HairSanity that concurrently delivers a salon look, feel and overall experience.

How do I know if it will work for me?

In a recent study where the HairSanity products were provided to hundreds of self-identified users of competitive products, the results were overwhelming. People love HairSanity and many are ready to throw away all of their existing hair care products. A few key findings from a national study of 704 users.

Basic dandruff related efficacy

The products are found to be effective in addressing the basic symptoms of dandruff--itching, flaking and irritated scalp--by 9 out of 10 of respondents.

About 8 out of 10 respondents say the products leave their scalps looking (85%) and feeling (89%) healthy, get rid of loose flakes (83%) and accomplish these effects from the first usage (79%). More than three out of four respondents say the products are better than the brands they regularly use for these attributes (78%).

About 3 out of 4 respondents prefer the products to their usual brands for minimizing or eliminating itchy scalp (80%), flaking (75%), and irritated scalp (73%) and keeping flakes from coming back (75%).

In addition, 7 in ten respondents prefer the products for keeping their scalps looking and feeling healthy (70%).

Cosmetic effects on hair

More than 90% of respondents agreed that the products deliver on leaving hair manageable (93%), looking (92%) and feeling (90%) healthy, smooth (90%), easy to comb (90%) and soft (90%).

At least four out of five say the products perform well on leaving hair easy to style (86%), looking beautiful (85%) and shiny (80%).

About 7 in 10 say the products work for leaving hair vibrant (76%), lustrous (70%), thick and full (70%), having long lasting results (77%) and not leaving hair greasy (78%).

Two out of three respondents prefer the products to their usual brands for leaving their hair soft (68%), looking (66%) and feeling (67%) healthy, smooth and beautiful (65% each).

Psychic attributes and aesthetics

The vast majority of respondents report that the products help them feel more confident about their hair (86%) and about wearing black (87%).

The scent is seen as pleasant by nearly 4 out of 5 (79%).

Comparatively, respondents prefer the products to their usual brands by a two to one margin for helping them feel more confident about their hair (68%) and allowing them to wear more black (63%).

Color, perm, keratin and other treatments

43% of the respondents in the study color their hair, with women being more likely to color than men. 63% of those that color report that the products don't wash out their color. 25% of respondents receive perms, keratin, or treatments. Of those respondents, 60% say the products preserve those treatments.

When compared to their existing brands on color durability, 68% had a preference. Among these people, 86% preferred HairSanity for achieving longer lasting results.

For perms, keratin and other treatments, 78% expressed a preference between the products we sent and their usual brands. Overwhelmingly, 80% of these prefer HairSanity for preserving their treatments.

Why is it called HairSanity?

While we were developing the products, we met a lot of people who were using certain products over and over and never getting an ideal result. They would change back and forth, sometimes returning to the same product. One popular definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result. HairSanity stops the cycle of insanity. It really is the solution for beautiful, manageable, frizz free hair with volume and luster without visible flakes.

What makes HairSanity different?

HairSanity addresses the scalp and the hair differently than other products on the market. Most of the competitive products address the scalp with zinc pyrithione and many contain sulfates and parabens. We take a completely different approach.

HairSanity products are:

  • Zinc Pyrithione Free
  • Sulfate Free
  • Paraben Free

Sulfate free and suds?

Many sulfate free shampoos are effective but don't suds well. Starting with the first time you use HairSanity, you will have a salon-like experience with luxurious lather without sulfates, parabens or zinc pyrithione.

Is HairSanity FDA approved?

Our products are covered under an OTC monograph system where certain active ingredients are approved for use by the FDA as GRAS (generally recognized as safe). HairSanity uses active ingredients that are monographed by the FDA, specifically hydrocortisone acetate, which is found in the external analgesic monograph and salicylic acid, which is found in the dandruff monograph. Both are safe and effective and HairSanity is diligent about following all regulatory guidelines.

Are ALL active ingredients in the HairSanity System listed as GRAS in an OTC monograph?

Yes

Are there any active ingredients in the HairSanity system that are not listed as GRAS in an OTC monograph?

No

What is a monograph?

The best source for this information is the FDA website. FDA has published monographs, or rules, for a number of OTC drug categories. These monographs, which are published in the Federal Register, state requirements for categories of nonprescription drugs, such as what ingredients may be used and for what intended use.

What is unique about the HairSanity delivery system as it relates to the hair, not the scalp?

HairSanity uses a proprietary combination of ingredients including extracts of the alp rose, oat kernel, sea whip (from a Caribbean reef), and willow bark. These are skincare quality ingredients in a haircare system.

Does HairSanity test on animals?

No.

Why isn't HairSanity sold in stores?

Our costs to manufacture our products are much higher than drug store and supermarket brand anti-dandruff shampoos which generally use zinc pyrithione as an active ingredient. The active ingredient we use in Step 1 of our system costs about 30 times as much per ounce as the active in most dandruff shampoos you will find in retail outlets. We are not a supermarket hair care product and our model is designed to give the best value possible by serving our customers directly.

Is HairSanity more gentle on color than other hair care products?

HairSanity does not use harsh surfactants to clean the hair as many shampoos do. Harsh surfactants can be tough on color. In a recent study of 704 users of competitive products, respondents were asked about how HairSanity compares to their existing products with respect to color retention. Of those who had a preference on this point (67%) most (85%) preferred HairSanity to their brands. 28% had no preference and 8% preferred the brands they had been using. All hair types and color products are different, so results may vary.

Does the Company sell a lot of other products?

No. We are 100% committed to one thing: delivering beautiful, manageable, frizz free hair with volume and luster without flakes--directly to you, our customer. Our entire business model is built around repeat business and customer loyalty.

Is HairSanity only for people with flakes and scalp problems?

No. We believe a healthy scalp is key to healthy hair. But HairSanity is much more. Even if you never had any scalp issues or dandruff, you will find that HairSanity will deliver the results you may have only dreamed possible. Two out three users report that HairSanity leaves their hair looking better than ever before.

Once hair reaches its ideal state with HairSanity, should it continue to be used?

You will want to continue to use it all the time to keep your scalp looking and feeling great, to keep the flakes away and to maintain your beautiful, manageable, luxurious hair. You may never wish to use anything else.

If my scalp changes by season, should I only use HairSanity in certain seasons?

We developed HairSanity to be used year-round. Regular use will get your hair into great shape and keep it there.

How Does It Work?

Everybody wants shiny, soft, voluminous, manageable hair that's flake free. Everyone wants a scalp that looks and feels great.

The HairSanity System addresses the flakes and scalp issues completely differently from most of the other products on the market which only use zinc pyrithione. Our active ingredients are hydrocortisone acetate in Step 1 and salicylic acid in Step 2. Two separate products. Both are categorized as safe and effective. Salicylic acid is in the dandruff OTC monograph and hydrocortisone acetate is in the external analgesic OTC monograph.

With respect to cosmetics, aesthetics, look and feel, HairSanity uses a patented combination of ingredients including extracts of the alp rose, oat kernel, sea whip and willow bark.
